Stercorarius pomarinus
our. 2 juveniles were living in tall grass
along nearly dry pond-covered
with dense gray down. About
size of Calif. Quail - but hard to
gay due to heavy down.
24 July
Nest #3 - only one bird in
area, giving alarm calls, but not
intensely. (Both birds were seen
21 July harassing Peregrine Falcon).
No sign of other adult or juveniles.
Nest #4 - both birds actively
calling and defending. Empty egg
shells near nest - but no sign of
juveniles. Nest defense much more
intense than pair #1, with large
juveniles. Probably younger juveniles.
31 July
Saw 1 juvenile with pair #4.
larger than juveniles of Pair #1.
Pair #2 - killed by oskinoes
left on tundra. No sign of juveniles.
1 not too bad - taken. (# 315)
♀. Other - eggs taken.
