Maclean 1967 Phalaropus fulicarius 8 June the first of the year - P' sighted a group of ca. 25 flying W-E over his plot. they then sat down in Holmes' Marsh. 9 June two birds flew over W Beach Ridge toward Central Marsh, but not interested in stopping, In the afternoon 3 birds flew past aacs area. 10 June A group of ca. 12 birds was feeding in flooded low polygon centers in Voth Area, just S. of FAL. Obviously visual feeding - pecking singly in water. All doing the same thing - could have repeated feeding observations as museum. Amazingly same little birds. Returned in the evening - 5 birds were there. We collected them all - 3♂7♀ and 2♀. Also picked up a dead ♂ that had the brain eaten ours. Diet was dominated by Pedicia larvae - 1♀ was full of them. All 3 tipulids appeared in 2 stomachs. One of the females has recently completed a clutch - 4 ruptured follicles - largest ovum 5 mm. It must have been elsewhere - this area hasn't been open for 4 days, but the oviduct was greatly distended and last ruptured follicle looked
