24 June
Saw frequent small groups of
♀♀ on Holmes' Morass. This area is
still very wet - probably v. few
areas dry enough for nests. More likely
just pre-departure feeding and staging
area.
25 June
Frequent ♀♀, mostly feeding abre-
along gas well road. Associations are
loose - birds fly together, but mostly
feed or separate small panes.
26 June
Same impression along same road.
They are not using footprint lake to
any significant degree, as frequently
seen in previous years.
29 June
Little suitable habitat except
for swales West of village, along
Nunivak Slough. Birds were not
commonly seen, but I doubt that this
area ever supports a large population.
1 July
Groups of ♀♀ are scattered over
Holmes Morass - 2 to 6 or so - mostly
feeding actively. No large groups yet,
nor the kind of active flying indicative
of imminent departure.
Same impression in west area
East of Village Ridge.
3 July
About the same thing in Holmes'
Morass - possibly becoming a little
