Mackea 1966 P. fulicarius 24 June Saw frequent small groups of ♀♀ on Holmes' Morass. This area is still very wet - probably v. few areas dry enough for nests. More likely just pre-departure feeding and staging area. 25 June Frequent ♀♀, mostly feeding abre- along gas well road. Associations are loose - birds fly together, but mostly feed or separate small panes. 26 June Same impression along same road. They are not using footprint lake to any significant degree, as frequently seen in previous years. 29 June Little suitable habitat except for swales West of village, along Nunivak Slough. Birds were not commonly seen, but I doubt that this area ever supports a large population. 1 July Groups of ♀♀ are scattered over Holmes Morass - 2 to 6 or so - mostly feeding actively. No large groups yet, nor the kind of active flying indicative of imminent departure. Same impression in west area East of Village Ridge. 3 July About the same thing in Holmes' Morass - possibly becoming a little
