10-13 June
About as last year at Meade River-
birds were frequent in upland tunara,
but left dry ridges to the black-bellied
plovers. Repeatedly encountered nesting
birds giving alarm note and/or distraction
display, but flushed no young.
14 July
About 20 in a flock near Beach
Ridge Crossing. Flock also includes ca.
20 cm, 10 ca., and 2 a.i. Collected
3. Flock was also scattered along
East side of Central Marsh-probably
about 40 birds.
15 July
Flocks were in the same places.
More birds today: 30-40 near Beach
Ridge Crossing.
Pair near aacs, to East, is
still incubating.
16 July
Went out to trap trapping. Nest
I was hatchling - we watched the first
of the 4 crawl out of the shell. Left
Tom there with the deadfall trap
and moved to Pitella's Plot to try
the bow net. No luck with either.
Tom left the trap set and went away
from the aacs nest. The adults would
not get on, and after 1 1/2 hrs. they
young were dead or nearly so. We
probably caused nest failure here.
