Phalaropus fulicarius
16 June to
10 June
At Meade River - Density was about
equal to Barrow. At this time they
are easy to collect, and a sample of
8 was taken. 5 PP showed very good
laying synchrony - 4/5 on 3rd or 4th
egg. 5th got fouled up somewhere
along the line. If PP do not remain
there and flock after finishing duties
synchrony would appear greater than
it actually is. Saw no flocks of PP.

Pairs frequently encountered
in ponds among polygons west of
cake-eater. If they utilize all
habitat as densely as this it won't be
a disastrous year. Birds are mostly
feeding. They obviously use visual clues,
and the return as indicated by frequency
of feeding motions during active search
seems low. (Not, methinks, as low
as Meade River, where they were
really working for a meal.)
In ponds South of Gasline Pipe -
nothing. Guess they won't utilize
habitat uniformly. That should be a
good area.
21 June
In Voth Area South of Creek -
saw PP phalaropes beginning to
associate. Saw a group of 4 flying
