C. alpina
9 June
At 2:20 P.M. - only 2 eggs in the
nest. At 3:30 P.M. - still 2 eggs.
10 June
At 4:00 P.M. - 3 eggs and being
incubated - saw the bird sitting and the
eggs were warm.
Found two 2-egg nests today - both
revealed by flights of a attending bird. The
(ca.1600) first - about 300 m. NW of the above nest,
on the E. slope of village ridge. The second -
(ca.2100) on the S. bank of Wohlslag slough, across
from the CRPRL weir. Marked both nests
to return and steal the eggs when the clutch
is completed.
Spent the evening along Elsan bluffs,
So. of Wohlslag. It looked like most alpina
are in the laying stage now. The tumora
has more nest scrapes than I have ever seen.
11 June
Again - more of the same. Looked for
nest near No. end of traplines III A-B -
without success. Nest 1 (No. of IVAB) and
Nest 2 (E. slope of village ridge) both had
3 eggs at 3:00 P.M. and 3:15 P.M. respectively.
12 June
At 3:30 P.M. went to Nest 1 - now
4 eggs. Bird was off and away, so we
went on to nest #2. Collected the
incubating bird - apparently a ♀ - and
the 4 eggs. Returned to nest #1 and
did the same.
