Maclean 1968 C. alpina 6 June) I think not paired - wherever ground comes through the snow. In all - there are many birds in the area considering the extent of snow cover. Again lots of active birds by the Gadwell - 1 less after we passed through. There may be a few territorial pairs around the periphery of this area. In the evening drove out to Microller area, but didn't see or hear much. Saw a nest scrape - Soikkeli asked, smugly - if birds remain on territories, where are they? But we didn't search the area to find out - too damn cold. 7 June Again - lots of birds on the open spaces. Found the first nest of the year- a 1 egg nest near the No. end of line IV A-B. At 8:45 P.M. saw the bird come off; at 9:20 went back and found the nest with a warm egg - may have been quite fresh. The area was riddled with nest-cups - probably 8 of them on the exposed patch 10 x 20m, The nest was at the highest point of the patch. Saw several flocks of red-backs - a flock of 6 left the Uoth area after I watched them feed.
