2 August
They are also appearing at the ponds at
Shastip Station - both adult and
immature. ca. 10 there.
3 August
An active flock of about 30 at
Shastip station tonight. Very tight flock
formation - if they were pectoralis I
would say they were about to leave.
5 August
About 10 birds w/ 10 melanostratus and
ca. 40-50 pusillus near the reefer row, on
the East side of the road. Birds were
jibbing at pond edge and pond w/ no veg.
cover. Collected 2 - SN 799, 800.
At Tanglifoot I found another
flock of ca. 18 feeding in low polygara-
polygara trough, then moved to pond
edge. Collected 2 - SN 803, 804.
All birds collected today still show
light jar. Now molting very heavily.
Saw none at Umiat.

A flock of >100 alpina was feeding
around coastal ponds at Shastip Station.
Main part of flock - nearly all adults,
contrary to Holmes - flew very tightly,
but smaller groups fed loosely around
pond margins and somewhat on low
glass around ponds. Collected 3 - SN 806,
7,8.
