C. alpina
10-13 July
At Meade River - birds frequently encountered, but no young seen. As last year, they occupied mesic areas, especially tussock-tundra. Since these areas are not good for walking, alpina may be more dense than it appeared.
14 July
A flock on Beach Ridge near the road crossing included about 8 alpina as well as P.d., C.m., and A.i.. Later found 4 sitting in low polygon tundra NE of USC & G.S. site. Collector 1. So flocking is definitely well underway.
15 July
Found 2 adults with 4 young juveniles along the East side of Central Marsh on an elevated area. They were in the same place about 40 minutes later - prob. feeding on a.d. tipulids which were abundant there.
In the evening a mixed flock was again at Beach Ridge crossing - this time with about 16 alpina. Another group of 8 was feeding along dry grounds in East Central Marsh - pecking. Collector 2 feeding observations on both groups.
16 July
A flock on P's Plot - spread out, and feeding. At least 18 birds - probably more spilling onto Holmes' Marsh.
