Maclea 1966 C. alpina bird was hunting actively, but nothing fresh in stomach. 7 June Much "early" type activity of dispersing birds in Voth Area. About 30 birds on 10 acres of exposed grounds along west side of Honeybucker Lagoon. Broke into smaller units, but regrouped twice in ca. 20 minutes of observation. Much activity - short chases, drills, aggression - but no full display, and no evidence of pairing. Farther down road - similarly behaving groups of 15 by cake-eater, 20 across road on Voth side. By evening, 60 birds were concentrated into a cohesive group in Cake-eater area. Probably largest Spring flock ever seen. Flying very actively and rising quite high. No sign of breeding activity. 8 June Pair in Drum area probably just transient. 87 displayed once but without well developed early phase of song. Two pairs appeared stable (and quieter) on Beach Ridge. Another pair where road crosses ridge to Central Marsh probably not localized. Evening - tight group of 13 in
