C. alpina
bird was hunting actively, but
nothing fresh in stomach.
7 June
Much "early" type activity of
dispersing birds in Voth Area. About
30 birds on 10 acres of exposed grounds
along west side of Honeybucker Lagoon.
Broke into smaller units, but regrouped
twice in ca. 20 minutes of observation.
Much activity - short chases, drills,
aggression - but no full display, and
no evidence of pairing. Farther down
road - similarly behaving groups of 15
by cake-eater, 20 across road on Voth
side.
By evening, 60 birds were concentrated
into a cohesive group in Cake-eater
area. Probably largest Spring flock
ever seen. Flying very actively and
rising quite high. No sign of breeding
activity.
8 June
Pair in Drum area probably just
transient. 87 displayed once but without
well developed early phase of song. Two
pairs appeared stable (and quieter) on
Beach Ridge. Another pair where road
crosses ridge to Central Marsh
probably not localized.
Evening - tight group of 13 in
