MacLean 1965 Calidris alpina 10 June Two birds feeding together near South end of Beach Ridge. Groups of 5, 2 proceeding E. along edge of Wolb slog Slough, all feeding actively. 11 June Saw 2 feeding in low polygonal area around Steven's Plots, W. of micro-wet. Others in area. Heard first song in brief bursts of ca. 3 sec.. 12 June Encountered 4 seemingly dispersed and territorial birds S. of CDEElwaniger- observes first raised wing displays and grounds chasing. Moving E. along Wolb slog Slough, encountered two groups of 5-9 - eventually joined with others at mouth of Slough to -> flock of 25. Feeding actively. Feeding motion: moving with "exploratory" jobs into litter in series of 3-8; ca. 10-12 series/30 sec. Occasionally 2 top and job (often deeper) attentively at one spot for up to 1 1/4 min. Series seem to break down at these times. 13 June Easily outnumber all other shorebirds combines at this point. Birds are dispersing and setting up territories. Aerial displays and chases frequent. Occures irregularly around W. Beach Ridge and low polygonal grounds west. Several seemingly territorial birds on Gasline Ridge. Flock
