Maclean 1969 C. melanotus 6. 29 June there is a large flock of 877 in Central Marsh and adjacent parts of Beach Ridge. Display activity has essentially ceased. 1 July Collected 3 877 from the above flock - now largely on Beach Ridge. Adult insect flights is just beginning it will be interesting to see if their stomachs contain adults - especially tipulidae, which were not evident to us in this area today. The birds - SN 10 , 10 , 10 - have greatly reduced cervical fat, and 2 of the 3 have begun to molt. The breeding season is declared finis. Found none in Central Marsh, Beach Ridge, or along the Gaswell Road as far as the north end of Footprint Lake. 3 July Went all the way down the Gaswell Road, and finally found 1 bird just North of Footprint Lake, and a flock of ca. 10 + scattered individuals on Footprint itself.
