SU 1066 & 1067.
24 June
A newly arrived flock of ca. 30 - mostly
or entirely 87T - near traplines IX & X. They
were beginning to display and chase around.
I collected 5 of these - SU 1068-1072. One
was molting heavily; FAP thinks the conclusion
of the pre-nuptial molt, but if so it is
beginning anew after a total cessation and
that molt occurs in opposite sequence to the
post-nuptial molt. Doesn't seem too likely.
25 June
Found 2 complete nests today -
collected both of them. In the morning I
flushed a ♀ from a nest - and into the
middle of a flock of ca. 30 87T. She was
immediately chased by at least 10 of them.
Didn't see her get back on. Returned to
this nest at 4:45 - the eggs were slightly
warm, but in 45 minutes we never saw
the ♀. Went out at 7:30 - she was
incubating and I collected her (SN
) and the 4 eggs (12.2, 12.1, 12.0, 11.1 grams).
In the afternoon Dave Havers and I
flushed a ♀ from a nest on Southern end of
FAP's plot - ca. 10 m. NW of stakes to 8 of
trapline IV. Again - flushed her into the
clutches of a flock of males, and she was
