C. melanotos
23 June)
the evening run of the traps got
2 birds: 913 - a ♂ with a fresh brood
patch, and 914 - and app. alpine.
24 June
things have quieted down some-
fewer birds in the areas of activity yesterday.
The birds by IV and X have moved
away from the SW flar, and are
feeding on WSW flar and low polygon
humara ca. 200 m. west of previous area.
I collected a territorial adult ♂
below Gasoline Ridge. He is light (SN 918 -
97.6g) but has a well developed cervical
region. Feels like all of his reserves are tied
up in the cervical deposit.
tom reported a flock of 200 to 300
(that's what he said!) in the Drum area.
Wish I had seen it "...with my own eyes".
25 June
As yesterday - the big fling is over.
Still some displaying and squabbling birds,
but more flocking.
26 June
do ♂. Saw several fairly large
(to 60 birds) flocks - some wheeling
about in the air. they are obviously
getting ready to depart.
29 June
the exodus has begun; some birds in
Central Marsh, but definitely fewer in the
area. Collected 1 - SN 926. I should have a
sample of the pre-departure birds.
