3 June
lone of 7 on exposed mound in
Central Marsh, near Gasline Ridge.
Flew several times, then displayed
well. Very obvious "change of gears" as
he went into display flight and
began calling.
Saw 2 other birds - both alone.
4 June
No new arrivals - saw no birds
on Beach Ridge or Pitelka's Plot.
6 June
Saw but 1 bird - this standing
alone in Voth Area.
7 June
Pair flew into area south
of cake eater. Stayed ca. 5 minutes,
then passed on to NE. Interesting -
appeared to be paired, but not
localized, yet other arrivals unpaired.
Suggests physical territory is not involved
in pairing occurring on the mating grounds.
8 June
Pair feeding on polygonal area by
AACS marsh - didn't seem too stable.
Flew on to NE.
Pair in Britton's Area - not
doing much.
9 June
Pair on ridge by west shore of
Footprint Lake. Did not appear strongly
territorial.
