June
In the morning a tight flock of about
35 birds - mostly ♂ but a few ♀ - settled
in the drum area by the second cobra
pole. They sat quietly for several minutes,
then began to move out feeding. Saw no
interactions between birds - I think this was
a flock still moving westward. They left
before I could return with a shotgun car.
5 minutes later.
Next saw several birds feeding
on and around Skroawik plot - even tho
this was mostly snow covered.
By the gaswell - 25 to 30 birds
feeding actively. Collected a ♂ and a ♀
from this group. Saw no obviously
breeding-related behavior. One ♂ looked
like he might have been
7 June
Still a large group by the gaswell -
very fluid, so it was hard to count, but at least
20. Collected a ♂ and a ♀; flock still more ♂
than ♀.
In the evening - a settled pair in
Voth area, where Voth Creek turns south
toward Voth Slough. ♂ displayed over a large
area - no neighbors in sights.
10 June
Elson Bluffs, So. of Wohlsley - saw a
group of 5 or 6 feeding ♂ - took 1 - SM 880.
It weighed only 90.5g. Later found a lone ♂
