Calidris melanotos
1 June
At Barrow - found 2 birds
keeping near some redbacks on the
Beach Ridge. Collected 1 - a ♂,
about 86 grams.
3 June
Stopped on grassy opening in snow
in Voth area and collected a ♂. Waited
a few minutes and another ♂ came in.
Collected this one too. These were
heavier than above bird - good sign.
These were the only pectorals seen today.
4 June
Saw a ♂ at the N. end of
Pitelka's Plot at 2:30 P.M.
In the evening I drove out to the
area of the gaswell. There [illegible] was a
number of ♂♂ pectorals there, scattered
about an open area ca. 6 acres in
extent. Birds were keeping singly or
in small groups. Saw no fighting, but
did see an active chase involving 2
birds. The birds looked big and healthy -
took 2 and both weighed in the 90's g.
I'm optimistic. Have seen no ♀♀ yet, but
there may have been some in this flock this
evening. There appeared to be about 15
birds.
5 June
Saw the first ♀ - a lone bird in
the Voth area, So. of the creek. Collected
it - 70.6 g.
