Calidris melanotos
19 May
At 7:00 A.M. found a group of 4♂ and 2♀ just N. of the Steese Highway, in wet area of mixed grasses and ericaceous tundra. Saw 1 chase -♂ chased ♀, with garble note. ♂ did not look very cheety at this point. Wished I had a shotgun to find out just how cheety!
At ca. 2:00 saw 2♂ chasing, with garble note, high over a ridge top 1½ mi. SE of Eagle Summit.
23 May
Encountered these twice today. At ca. 8:20 a flock of 4 - apparently all ♂ - flew by very rapidly and very erratically - over the top of ridge behind Center Hill, heading generally South. at 10:00 heard a male in full nesting display twice on the SE face of Center Hill, fairly low. Good sign - if they are worked up here, maybe they will breed at Barrow. Drove up the highway to Eagle Summit looking, but failed to find any pectorals.
26 May
Saw several - at least 2 and possibly up to 4 - today in Mastodon area flying in a group with bairds and 1 buff-breast. Saw 1♂ give aggressive ground display (low intensity) to another pectoral on the ground.
