Maelean 1967 C. melanops 26 July 3, 4, 5 - all ad. ♂♀ with light, mod. heavy, heavy far; molting. Birds were peeking. 29 July None in Holmes' Marass; again about 30 along the g.d. wessel road. 30 July More activity today - a number of birds - maybe 8 to 10 - around Tanglefoot I with alpia, P.d., and I dowitcher. Others spread out in the marsh, or or near the road. 2 August Pan into a number of lone ♂♀ or small groups along mesic uplands - as around Micro-Mer. A good-sized flock - ca. 40 - was loosely organized around corner of Central Marsh. Surface feeding appears to be passé, even though ad. new adolescents may still be seen. 3 August Found a flock of ca. 60 by corner of Central Marsh. Collected 2: 811' 791, 2. Both ♂ ad. 5 August About 10 birds were feeding around pans South of Smikpule with 40 pusillus, 10 alpia. Jabbing. Collected 2: 811' 791, 2. ad ♂ and the first immature of the year. Immature has light far, unlike the adults. 6-8 August None at Unias. 9 August None at Shootip Station, N. end of Holmes' Marass, or corner of Central Marsh.
