C. melanostris
18 July] Marsh when disturbed. Other birds were
in the Marsh.
20 July
FAP found a young juvenile lost or
abandoned near Micro Mer and giving
distress calls. Collected it. So at least
some breeding occurred here this year.
21 July
Dan and I found a flock of ca.
12 feeding on an old weasel road near
EAA. Later, near Family Lagoon, I saw
a F that definitely had young nearby.
Not enough time to find the young, but no
doubt. Maybe (probably) the F of the
juv. found yesterday. Otherwise, saw
very few. Central Marsh group seems
to have departed, leaving numbers way
down from recent days.
22 July
One flock of ca. 12 birds in Central
Marsh feeding around the weasel road.
Otherwise, found none in Holmes' Marsh.
24 July
None in Central Marsh. Numbers
are conspicuously down.
25 July
Again - few. Transected over 9000
marsh habitat and saw none. Finally
found ca. 6 birds sitting quietly around
torns and boughs of Gasline Ridge.
26 July
A flock of about 30, feeding
from the weasel road in Central Marsh
near P's Plot. Collected 4:811762,
