C. melanostos
4.
[18 June] beginning to farm.
19 June Don and I saw a flock of ca. 20
♂♀ feeding on wet marsh N.S.
Micro Met. Another smaller flock was
feeding West of those. Went back
with the shotgun in the evening but
the birds were gone.
21 June Collected 4 ♂♀ from a flock of
c. 30 scattered about feeding in
wet marsh between AACS and Micro-
Met.
In the evening a larger flock -
>60, but too spread out for a good
count - was feeding in Central Marsh.
Birds were feeding on islands of
saturated ground rather than in the
standing water which covers most of the
Marsh. Don collected 1 (SM730).
A small group was feeding in
the flooded marsh W. of Gasoline Ridge-
mostly along the q.d. wedgel road.
23 June Flocks are again conspicuous,
but single, scattered ♂♀ are still
seen. Saw several lone ♂♀ in the
area 3 and 2 of Family Creek-Family
Lagoon. Still few ♂♀ and no nests.
24 June Removed 4 ♂♀ from a flock of
40 flying around Beach Ridge East
