C. melanotes
7 June
Saw 2 ♂ feeding with 2-4
bairdii on wet tundra at Nuuk.
8 June
Newly arrived birds were conspicuous-
actively feeding and flying, but no display
or territorialism yet. Collected several
feeding observations and several flew by
or W. end of Beach Ridge. Others
at Gasoline P., and a flock of ca. 18
was feeding on the S. end of P's plot.
Collected 3 - 1 ♂, 2 ♀♀ - from this, this
was a good start toward a "Pectoral year".
♂ - t = 15 mm ; ♀♀ - ova to 4 and 5 mm-
coming up, but a way to go yet. ♀♀ in poor
condition - heavy fat.
9 June
Another newly arrived flock - 10-12
birds - on W Beach Ridge. Feeding
actively in a tight flock, but saw ♂
ground display and aerial display twice.
Birds were very cooperative - obviously
jabbing along retreating snow edge. Frozen
ground right below the surface - couldn't
have probed if they tried. Twice saw
birds remove what looked like Tipulidae
larvae.
10 June
2 ♀♀ feeding in Micro-Mer area
as we drove by.
Flock of 6 feeding actively S of
FAD in area of flooded low polygons.
