C. melander
20 m. from another ♂. Both flew, then
for next 15 minutes a ♂ persistently
harassed a ♀ over area 400 m. x 250 m.:
♂ chased in flight, gave ground display
and approached whenever ♀ came down. Most
active sexual encounter I've seen this
year. ♂ gave flight "garble", hooted at
least once.
27 June
Searches good habitat between
micro-wet and gasoline ridge without
seeing a single bird, dammit.
Later - only place birds were seen
was in Drum area; flying around by
roads were about 3 birds.
28 June
This evening Nike reports group of
27 birds East of AACS. They could
breed, but I fear it is too late.
29 June
Area SW of village is not their
habitat. Some looks O.K. just
beyond village Drum area, and saw
4 ♂ chasing here, and 2 displaying
♂♂ just beyond. That was it for
broad marshy habitat and pectorals
for the rest of the day.
