MacLean 1966 C. bairdii 19 June Upon return from Medoe River, where this species was not seen, went into town, then walked out Browerville ridge to village ridge. Birds are conspicuous here and still displaying actively. Saw two good chases of 4 and 3 birds. They are acting early in the season-ish, albeit 19 June. 20 June Heard at least 2077 displaying over East slope of Village Ridge, but saw none on the ground. 22 June Not a single bird on the great trek to the interior! 24 June A pair on North side of Wolleng Slough acted pre-incubation. Both birds standing together—57 twice pursued 4 in ground display—wing flag, tail cockers, horizontal body, etc.. Good place to look for a nest later. No sign of pair previously hanging out by South end of Pitelka's Plot. 25 June Total of 6 nests located today—one with 2 eggs. 4 in Drum area, 1 in beach ring & polygons, 1 East of C.+g.S.. Birds are still active— chasing, ground displays—even one prolonged territorial encounter in Drum area. Localized several
