Encountered frequently near AICS and
along Beach Ridge (S.). Display flight seen
occasionally. One displayed to by a white-rump.
Several chased by white rumps.
Near sta. 8.0 of So. Gas line trap line -
ground display. Two birds - one tail held down,
fanneo. Feathers of back ruffled. Wings held
away from body and down. Followed other bird
ca. 8" below; two went in tight circles (ca. 2ft.
dia.), moving - [illegible] ... Continues 30 sec., then
displaying bird (presumed ♂) flew 40 ft. away,
other (♀?) followed 20 ft. away. Both flew
150 ft. South. 30 sec. later ♀ moves back to
original and disappeared. ♂ continues to fly
actively 30-50 ft. away. Flushes ♀ off of
nest w/ 4 eggs. Nest or side of polygonal
mound. Exposed from all sides. Shallow cup,
well lined w/ lichen. Eggs green, heavily spotted
w/ brown. Pointed end of all eggs towards center
of nest. Birds gave very brief distraction
display as eggs checked, then flew away.
Evening - 1 possible seen in Voth area.
11 June
Much activity in Drum area. 1 displaying
(aerial) nearly constantly for ca. 10 min. over Δ
200 x 200 x 150 yds.. Chases frequently seen.
Group of 4 chasing - same area as 1 before
displaying. Chase low over ground. 1 dropped
off, others continued. Flew higher. 150 yds.
