ca. 100 yds from nest. 1 bird attending
chicks - no distraction display. Flew
around area, but made no sound.
Chicks squatted motionless until ♀
landed, then ran over and were brooded.
Groups of 3 and 4 birds seen - no
large flocks.
13 July
2 birds together - both Area. Wish I
coulda shot 'em. Smaller groups of
A, 9.
♀#7 with 4 chicks. No other birds
in area. ♀ brooding young ca. 40 yds. from
nest. i.e.- has moved back closer to nest
(or is another ♀ with brood.) No
distraction Display.
14 July
♀ 12 w/ 3 still ca. 80 yds. from
nest cup. Chicks disperse, then watch as ♀
reassembles them. All on foot - one by one.
Forums are, then searches for 2♂ with 1♂
following, then for 3♂ with 1♂ + 2♂
following.
♀ with 1 chick ca. 120 yds. N.
of #12 - closer to low polygon area.
Chick collected - Maclean - 277. 25.4 g-
i.e.- earlier hatching than any of others.
Noticeably advances in size, development of
contour and flight feathers. Only 1 bird
in attendance. Taken on 1SA 3 5.
