Calidris mauri
3 June
A few birds were mixed in with
the orgy of activity on Britten's Area.
DWO collected one, which FAP is putting
up.
10 June
Collected one for DWO from
Beach Ridge, so. of FAA.
11 June
Heard and saw an aerial display
in same sight. Bird rose to ca. 25 ft.,
above ground, then displayed for ca.
100 m. Note was higher-pitched than
I had recalled; I take back all of my
comparisons between this and Aphriza
(= Calidris?) virgata.
13 June
Again as above sight - saw
3 birds take off together and 2
gave aerial displays. Again - rose
c. 25 ft. and gave display while flying
in a line. Just before this Bill Berry
saw a nest-cup display by this species -
may have involved the birds that I saw
in aerial display.
14 June
Was in that area today without
seeing any, but foggy weather discourages
all sandpiper activity.
15 June
Tom Cade saw display between
the DEW site and Beach Ridge.
16 June
I saw and heard display of
several birds over polygonal uplands
