Clangula hyemalis
13 July
Micro-met & sitting very high -
approaches to 1 ft. without causing her to
leave.
17 July
Above & deserted. Eggs cold, wet from
previous evening's rain. 1 egg taken -
no embryo.
19 July
Other 5 eggs checked - all
without embryos.
29 July
Clutches of 6 (larger) and 11
(smaller), plus ca. 30 other adults
on Upper Meadow Lake. Clutch less
chicks away as predator (namely, me)
approaches. When trapped next to
bank all dove and dispersed
under water. Each came up for
c.a. 2 sec, dove again. Continued
until away from predator. Pretty
damn effective!
