Maclean 1968 Calidris pusillus 1 June Saw at least 2 on the exposed portion of Beach Ridge, W. of B.R. Crossing. 3 June 4 birds - probably 2 pairs - in the drum area. 4 June the drum area is not yet very active- 2 settled pairs, with some interaction between the males. There were several birds - again perhaps 2 pairs, maybe 3 - by the gaswell buildings. 6 June No change in the drum area. 9 June there seems to have been an influx by the Caleeater site. Saw a fair amount of activity there. Still, the numbers are definitely down. 14 June Went out with Safrilano Gogan to Cake-eater area. Quickly found 2 nests within about 60 meters. One of these was obviously quite fresh - very close to the retreating snow. Couldn't pass it up. Used Soikkeli's trap to get the bird (SN 888) - 28.3g - must be a ♀. The four eggs weighed 6.8, 6.5, 6.9, and 7.1 g. respectively - Σ = 27.3g, x̄ = 6.825g. i.e.- only 1 gram less than the producing ♀. Egg laying must be more of a stress in this species than in alpina. The extraction will be particularly interesting. I think I will want some more weights of eggs.
