MacLean 1964 Callois pugnax 4. 13 June (Cart) Believe of incubating SP1. Very different distraction. Flushed at 25 ft. Display more vocal than postural. Squealing - almost mammal-like sound. Flew short distances (5ft) and resumed squealing. Went back to region of nest, stood 1/2 min.. Chased displaying SP off. 150 yards, then back to nest and on. Short motor boat display or way back to west. SP in full display just East. Pair 50 yds. below lab. Wheat-a, then flew E. One flew 150 yds; other 200 yds. 15 June Still much activity in drum area - SP displaying and chasing. Saw SP chasing both Peetoral and Baird's. Distraction display from non-incubating bird - repeated 3 times, each time from another direction. Moderate intensity. Marked 2 eggs of SP-2 with line 11 grounds, → right. 18 June 2 birds feeding in mud of Nott Creek. Another 2 on uplands beyond cake-eater. 2 pr. seen in Brownsville. 20 June Concentration found around polygonized grounds E. of Prow Sight, e.g. 50 yds. from Elsan Lagoon. 25 June 1 displaying SP-10. east of Holmes' Plot.
