Maclean 1964 Calidris pusilla 3 13 June to determine pattern, boundaries, etc. to interaction. ♂ displaying alone; not taking part in chasing. this, along with presumed ♀, giving wheel-a-till, like slow motorboat display - cir. 40% of time. Found SP-3, this pair. 4 eggs. Deep cup (c. 2½") well lined with grass. Very well hidden in bent grass. On S. side of low polygon c. 6 ft. across. Marked w/ black flag 6 ft. E., small stick just above. Found SP-4 - 4 eggs - on flat, mesic, homogeneous tundra. Moderately hidden. Distraction display from incubating bird - tail down and fanned. Wings held somewhat away from body, but not full out. Bird c. 100 yds. Near marked with white plastic bottle on ground past + T-bar like bldg. Evening - ♂ displaying just beyond bend in water line. Mainly whinny display. May have ♀ on nest. ♂ SP-2 - short motorboat display. ♀ SP-2 - flushed at 10 ft. very well developed distraction display - tail down and fanned, body horizontal, wings in "bundle" posture. Shuffle through grass, squat down almost out of sight. Shuffle when approaches. ♂ flaw over and greets next to crouching ♀. Followed as she moves. both chased away by ♂ from region of SP 1.
