26 May) the shotgun at that point; it may have
been a ♀ (looked small) with a ♂ on
a clutch nearby.
Continued - saw a pair ca. 1/3 mile
further - may have been the pair of the
3 just seen. These flew back in that
direction as soon as I found them.
In a saddle ca. 1/2+ miles beyond
hedro a pair in ground activity - i.e.-
hedro je jew coming from rocky slope.
Here my attention was distracted making
positive identification of buff-breasts, and
surf birds flew away without much
watching.
Soon thereafter heard the only
real aerial display that I heard all day,
and this did not go on for long. Never
dislocated this (these) bird(s). Saw
none in walking back. Walked along the
hill forming SW border of Weeden's
study area where I first saw surf birds
on 16 May.

I shot the only 2 surfbirds I saw today.
Went out early with the recorder and
searched around Eagle Summit without
luck. I was headed over the ridge
running NE from Puzzlemint Hill when
