20 May) Swoops v. low over much of slope, then
lands. Immediately another bird rises
from ca. 100 m. downslope - displays -
disappeared around the slope.
So... again the ground display involves
>2 birds, and there is no real sign of
territoriality. And I still don't have a
shotgun with shells to match, damnit!
Much less aerial display today - as
yesterday. This rapid shut down is more
puzzlement.
Jerry saw 4 birds ± together on
the ground on the back (SE) side of Candal
Hill - where I saw 2 birds yesterday. He
saw they weren't doing anything - just
sitting quietly (ca.5:30 a.m.)
21 May
Went around Center Hill in cold,
very windy weather - saw none.
Sandy Kogl reported seeing two birds
together - sitting quietly until flushed - on
the slope SW of Puzzlement Hill.
22 May
Ca. mile 32 of State Highway - saw 1
bird on the road. Bird was quite tame.
Noticed that the undertail coverts of this
bird were conspicuously spotted, not white.
This relates to the behavior seen 20 May.
