Isla Boca Brava, Chiriqui, Panama'
12 April 2002
Today was significant because we took blood
from the E-2 chicks (48 & 24 hours old), whose
mother is RRR (5CT2). It was also the
first day with any reasonable amount of rain - a
few inches fell at night as we sat around
playing Scrabble with Radica. Becca & I did 3
watches each, while Julie & Ryan did 2 watches
& entered the vocalizations on their week of
data sheets in the evening. The summary
system streamlines it so that this much is
possible, at least. I'll have to back &
enter displays myself.
Temp: 77-90°F - the lowest high temperature
we've had all season, I think!
Nest E-5 failed & Julie collected a fair-sized
little pile of seeds from beneath it. I hiked
to the gully past Claus & Mechtild's house &
found two new nests, with one egg each. I
would like to talk to them & see if they're
still interested in helping out on the project -
monitoring these nests would save some hiking
time for us. E-12 is in precisely the
same place as last year's E-AT, sharing
up the theory that females re-use
nest sites, or at least stick to the same
area.
I took GPS coordinates for georeferencing.
