DuVal, E.H. 2005 Isla Boca Brava, Chiriqui, Panama Journal 31 May The day started out with heavy rainfall that had been going since 9 pm the night before. The morning consisted of data tasks - nest sheets, data entry, and organization of existing data to determine where future watches are needed. Anne compiled Display Petch information wth that speculates alpha + beta birds. This will be useful so we can concentrate watches at particular areas. After lunch we each did 2 watches & nest searched. Anne found 2 nests with eggs, one which will be problematic, since it is ~13' high. We've had 6.2 cm of rain since last night. I checked S-14 nest, and the remaining chick FVB has developed a yellow-filled blister on his (L) eye, similar to the one his sibling had. He couldn't open his eye. I will keep monitoring his condition. He should fledge soon. JYC 1 June 05 After a fierce rain throughout the night - the morning was "tourist perfect"; although bad manakin weather. Pretty quiet throughout the day. The most excitement of the day WAS seeing a crocodile! during lunch. All four of us saw it. The timing was good, since Julian had been swimming in the exact spot about 1/2 hour prior! According to Julian, this WAS a "small croc" but a croc nevertheless. I imagine no one will be swimming anytime soon! Temp 75°F - 84°F, rain:
