DuVal, E. H. 2005 Journal Isla Boza Brava, Chiriqui, Panama 13 May 2005 Julian & I got home after a few hours of sleep at Pepe's house in Horconcito. Anne and Steve were out in the field when we arrived, so we took the time to shower, eat, unpack, and organize the (incredibly messy) cabin before going out to do watches. Red was hungry, so I fed him some of the large Miconia berries that I collected in Finca La Suiza. We fed him fresh local Miconia (the small purple sort) at lunchtime, then left him until 5pm while we did watches and nest checks. When we got home, Red was hungry, "churp"ing and begging, so we took him out and fed him two of the large green Miconia, freshly picked. After only two berries, he stopped eating and closed his eyes. He wouldn't beg any more, which is highly unusual for him, and he seemed cold. Julian warmed Red in his hands for a few minutes, then we placed him in the holding pen on a low perch over the heating pad. I covered the cage with my "blind" to keep out drafts, but when I checked him in an hour he was already dead - lying on his back
