Julian and I did watches while Anne and
Steve went to David today. I had the
chick, Red, with me for the morning, and
left him in the photo cage for the afternoon
because he was getting too active to keep tabs on.
Some notes on his behavior:
1. He gives a "chorp." call every 3-4 sec.
when hungry, regardless of whether
he can see you (calls more frequently if
you approach)
2. When he's less hungry, he stays quiet
until I call him (with a tongue-
clicking noise or by calling his name)
3. His gape is now mottled dark
grey and yellow (formerly, all yellow)
4. Head still unfeathered, Tail slightly in
pin.
5. Slight hook developing on tip of beak.
6. Finally he sometimes actively bites
mimosa
berries - he bit and held onto several
(whereheldup)
on the tree, but was unable to pull
them off.
7. He flew with apparent intent to Julian's
shoe and to my leg (which he hit
+ fell off of)
8. He takes multiple hop-flights along the
