The spider was still in the web when the manaki flew away. 9 March 9 March 2002 We went as a group to WEL ½, 3, x 4 this morning to get the locations down, & then Ryan, Becca, & Julie rotated through those perches for the morning (Ryan did WEL 3 in the afternoon). All was extremely quiet, but the afternoon was quite active all around the island. GAR(On) was QRing with a SDM by GULY, & my watch at FBE2 included many instances of RYV chasing BPY. Was BPY NOT alpha last year, as I had thought? Or is RYV just moving up & forcing BPY to a lower position? Is BPY just plain getting old? And if the risk of having a β partner is that they may usurp the α role, it opens all kinds of skew theory possibilities. I saw 4 DMs at FBE4 - just looked there in passing because two were QRing. Two males flew down to the up & did a fly-at display while two others
