Panama City, Parque Metropolitano, Republic of Panama
Mar 15
15 March 2005 - We went to the Parque
Metropolitano in the morning where we
saw an array of interesting birds: dancing
lance-tailed Manakins (with a ♀ on the dp),
four species of wren (rufus-and-white
wren (Thryothorus rufalbus castaneotus);
black-bellied wren (T. fasciatoventris); Rufous-
breasted wren (T. rutilus hyperthus);
and housewren). Also keel-billed toucan,
red-throated ant-tanager, streaked
flycatcher, blue dacnis (♂ fighting - fell
to the ground at one feet). Crimson-backed
tanager, white-shouldered tanager,
Euphania sp., Crimson-crested wood-
pecker, ♀ and undetermined species of
Mot-mot. Also fork-tailed flycatcher.
We then picked up our permits from
ANAM ($5) and went directly to
STRI for their weekly seminar series.
I talked with Neil SanAg and
met up with Sam Diaz-Muñoz, who
fits in beautifully in Panamá and
saves money by walking where I
would taxi. We stopped at El Machetazo
in the evening, then parted ways with Sam
and ate at Cafe Manolo.
