18 April 2005 - Heavy rain PM for ~45 min
Today I was blessed with incredible luck. I was (again) targeting unbanded females that had chicks in the nest - there are just so many this year! After I set a net at E-25 (CCU area), I went nest-searching and found a nest of chicks that were a day or two from fledging. The (banded!) mom mobbed me fiercely (as fiercely as manakins ever do) and I got her to. I bled and banded those chicks, then returned to find the E-25 female in the net. I figured out that E-50 also had an unbanded female, so I moved the net across the road to that nest and caught her as well. In the mean time, I left my backpack on the first beach road in a blind corner, and Frank ran it over with his tract. It was a direct hit, but I think the worst damage was a slightly bent sunglasses frame. He missed the GPS, which was in the bag, and it took me a few scary seconds to realize that my binoculars were safely around my neck! Before the rain started at about 3 pm, I caught unbanded females at two more nests. I'm
