Journal Isla Boca Brava, Chiriqui, Panama 10 April 2005 I'm staying home this morning to "make paper war" as Frank would say. One key thing to be done is deciding which nest variables should be recorded for failed or fledged nests. To decide this, I looked back at the 2002 nest data (still unanalyzed) to see what patterns emerge. In that year, we did not take data on physical characteristics of old or abandoned (under construction) nests. The trends seem to be: slope has no effect on fail v. fledge. nest lit has no effect on fail v. fledge. % cover has " " " " there is a marginal effect of distance to dps, even with outliers excluded. Possible confound: ?? nest in the same place repeatedly - may be the ?, not the nest site? <30m, no diff ; <60m no diff ; <100m=diff There is a hypothesis that lets serve to attract predators in a radius around dipy areas, and that ?? should nest with an optimal radius to maximize nest success.
