30 March 2005 - The day off. Frank teased me about having so many days off this year, but I believe that 2 days off and one David day each two weeks is the old standard for 4-month field seasons. I spent the morning revising the young male display /for paper, and liked to LOT to bleed + band WOW's chicks in the afternoon. I need to work data entry into the daily schedule, as we've already swamped with data sheets. I also collected the first egg for artificial incubation today - its siblig is still in the nest (E-19)
31 March 2005 - We all staked nests in the morning - there are now 5 nests with unknown moms. We successfully got bands on two of those moms today, and established one band for a third mom. I found a few more nests (!) pushing my total for the year to over 60 nests found, and 41 active. Incredible! One (by Claus's house) of the new nests had a chick of ~5 days, + an unb'd RC & standing on the side of the nest. So tomorrow I'll net for her and bleed her chick, assuming I can get permission from Claus and Mechthild.
Light rain in the night.
