We set three nets this morning and
caught seven manakins near the FBE
road. All were naive birds - either
unbanded (greens and a red-cap) or
birds banded in the nest (one DM from
2001 and a CB from 2002). I collected
feathers from the head, breast, back,
& rump of each for spectrophotometer
analysis - I do wish that I'd brought
the Ocean Optics machine to the
field now. We did one watch each
and intended to reopen the nets but
Frank kidnapped Julie for a mid-afternoon
fiesta, and work was delayed by
an hour or so. We still managed to
open nets in the afternoon and caught
one female - RRR #023. During the
morning we captured XYX, and she turned
out to be a different individual (#629) than
those listed in the MBL. We completed her
band combinations.
