DuVal, E.H. 2004 Journal Isla Boca Brava, Chinigui Prov., Panama Doing an afternoon watch at WELY, I saw female XXX - apparently, a female that fledged before she could be completely banded. I also saw a Scarlet Crimson-backed Tanager near WELY and another near WEL3. A pair of males seem to have set up a new dance perch near the croce, across the street from CRZ. I hunted them down twice (at 3:00 pm + 5:00 pm) and both times, they were SGY (DU) and YPB(DU). SGY was noticeably lighter, with a greenish rump. The more I see known-age DMs the more sure I am that there's a "first-year DM" plumage that's more greenish than older DM males. Julie saw a copulation at CCLI by WBR (DU), who did not display with a partner. She recorded an amusing inter-species interaction which I'm having her write on the following page:
