And then I waited for a taxi at the Horconcito/ Interamericano crossroads for an hour before Toto (green taxi) came by & couldn't fit the research trunk into the car, so promised to send Gambute. I should have stopped him then, knowing that I hate Gambute, but I didn't & Gambute came & extorted $15 from me for the ride, still charging others the 50c to Horconcito. Turns out he charged Julian $20. It took a while to find a boat to the island as well, but I set talking with Romero's son and two friends, as well as Leo and Don. By the time I made it to the island (William took me) it was around 8:00 pm. Yadira had saved spaghetti for me, and Julian was waiting with Boxer on the dock. Home sweet home. The North wind has been blowing, apparently, all week. Things are dry & dusty between here & Horconcito. 24 March 2004 The wind blew all day long, keeping the manakins in check.
