Journal
Panama City, Panama
22 March 2004 I left this morning for Panama. I finished my Allee competition submission for the Animal Behavior Society conference at 1AM & put it in the mail, for better or for worse. And I decided not to take the spectrophotometer or the telomere-sampling buffers. I may regret it once I'm there, but it's just too much to think about.
Expenses so far:
Shuttle to GTK airport: $24
Hotel-1 night Marparaiso: $22
Taxis in Panama City: $3
Groceries: $ 21.46
Dinner at El Trapiche: $5.50
23 Mar 2004 I repacked, then went to El Machetazo this morning to buy film, pens, a journal, and, most importantly, photos for my research permits. Then I took a taxi to ANAM (Edificio 804, Albrook) where I got my permits with little delay & no problems. As I was waiting, I met Brian Vergara ((507)264-1286 office phone) who works on fish (marlin?) in the Darien, as a field assistant. He's Puerto Rican, has lived in LA for 14 years, & has a house in Panama. He gave me a ride back to the Marparaiso and I packed my bags off to the Albrook bus terminal. I caught the 11:15 bus to Horconcito (David line),
