H. 2003 Journal San Jose, y Bolanos Isla Boca Brava, Chiriqui Prov., Panama 7 May 2003 Clear and sunny morning: the manakins were relatively quiet as we walked out to Christina's house to get house-sitting instructions at 07:00. Today was our first and last two day off this field season. I did a half-hour watch at WELY just to not let everything slide, and then declared today "employee appreciation day": we went with a group of tourists to snorkel at Isla Bolanos. On the way there, Elvy drove us past the small nearby island that is an ibis (White Ibis) and Great Egret rookery. A black vulture roosts or nests in a small shallow cave on the East side of the island, and juvenile ibis were everywhere. Several Magnificent Frigatebirds also rested on nearby rocks or hovered over the colony. There were certainly more than 300 White Ibis present, and perhaps as many as 500. On Bolanos I didn't bird much but did see Bananaquits in the high coconut palms and a Tanager in the understory. I heard no Lance-tailed Manakins, confirming my experience in previous years - I don't believe there is a population on Bolanos.
