Isla Boca Brava, Chiriqui, Panama
25 May 2002
It rained in the afternoon, cutting our
third watch short. Becca and Chris came
back to the island. Ryan saw a "silvador"
snake at Bridge (Clelia clelia?) that carefully
investigated his backpack and nullified a good
40 minutes of his watch. I banded the
E-26 chicks (?=wow), one of which got band
#500 - we've come a long way! 3 1/2" rain
26 May 2002
It started raining during the first watch of
the day, twenty minutes in, and we all trooped
home to do data entry. We set up shop in
the hammock holder with two people entering
vocalizations on the computer, one organizing
nest sheets, one counting seeds for the seed
experiment, and me catching up on these field
notes - there are some huge holes in this account
of the field season.
General observations for the year: the rainy
season was surprisingly late; we've seen
many solo displays for females (as in not
preceded by 2-male dances/displays; we've
seen more copulations than in any previous
year (at least partially due to the larger
number of observers); + we've found nests of
two (?) females who we saw copulate (AYR was one).
