Duval, E.H. 2002 Journal Isla Boca Brava, Chiriqui, Panama 23 May, colt. and Yadira are in Golfito until tomorrow. Amelia found a 6' box in the kitchen yesterday, and a viper (so she says) on the stairs by her cabaña in the morning. There's a black- hooded antshrike nest with two chicks close to fledging along the path down to the second beach (near SBEs). When I stopped to check on it today, the female fluttered away, mostly walking conspicuously away from the nest rather than really trying to fake injury. The male sat motionless on the side of the nest. 24 May 2002 Julie and I got up at 5:45am to jog the length of the field site. It was crazy, but I felt more energetic all day long. Julie saw two snakes today, much to her horror. At WEL3 I saw 2 DMs dancing for a "♀" who then started giving a mangled, warbly cee k call. Babies dancing? Unfortunately I couldn't see "her" to see if she had bands. Julie also saw some of this year's chicks at FBE, where the DMs seemed to mistake me for a female and do SF-2.
