E.H. 2002 Journal Isla Boca Brava, Chiriqui, Panama 18 May 2002 ARA (now SRC) has returned to the BRI display area! So much for the idea that manakins won't fly across water. SRC was the only male around for most of my watch at BRI, and he was extremely active. BOW was nowhere to be seen. We didn't watch BRI on the 17th, but Becca saw a chase that involved 2 DM's on the 18th. Unfortunately she didn't get the bands on either male. It may have been an outraged SRC chasing BOW. I netsearched in the gully east of LOTs and found a nest with two chicks (!). As I bled them, WOW (#300) mobbed me as aggressively as a manakin can mob. In the afternoon, Ryan and I set nets for AYA (an 9 to be removed) at ACA4 and opened them for about an hour. 19 May 2002 We caught AYA almost immediately this morning at ACA4. I decided to try holding males in captivity, since relocating [illegible] to a convenient island does not seem to work.
